Album Talk – The Magic Gang: “The Magic Gang”

The four-piece from Brighton have finally released their long-awaited debut album, and boy have they delivered.

This indie band certainly knows how to make music, and have released their debut self-named album with Yala! Records. Now ‘The Magic Gang’ have been releasing music on music platforms since 2015, but 3 years later have come along with an absolute peach of a debut album.

The album features 16 tracks, with 2 tracks being acoustic versions of 2 tracks on the album. The indie band mix incredible song writing ability with catchy tunes, producing an album that you just can’t hate. As well as the guitar fuelled bangers you hear amongst this album that we are used to hearing from indie bands, the band have produced a few slow amiable tunes in the likes of “Take Care” and the 2 acoustic cover songs of their own tracks on the album.

The album starts with a track named “Oh, Saki”, an upbeat rock and roll sounding tune that uses the guitar to its maximum potential. A proper banger to start the album off, “Oh, Saki” really does set the tune for the rest of the album, with incredible vocals and a beat that will be stuck in your head for days, much like the rest of the songs on the album.

“Getting Along” and “Caroline” are perfect songs for getting you in the mood, and much like I mentioned in my previous blog with ‘Patawawa’, are tunes you should absolutely be listening to prepare you for summer. The album is just full of songs you’ll be belting out at the top of your voice when you’ve listened to them on repeat. As mentioned before “Take Care” really slows the album down in the middle, combining beautiful vocals with brilliantly thought out lyrics, and not forgetting the memorable beat behind it.

Overall, I would rate this debut album 9/10, and has most certainly been one of my favourite albums this year, and feels like an album I’m going to be listening to for a long time. The Magic Gang definitely didn’t disappoint with this one, and if you are a fan of indie music, I would recommend you give it a listen, and I’m sure this will be a debut album to be remembered.

Favourite song on the album: Caroline
