Hey guys! So I have been at ‘Y not? Festival’ all weekend and returned yesterday, such a great weekend of music, but time to get back to business and let you all know about some new music! There will be a Y not post going up soon showing you all some cool pics from my weekend away!
Emzae is a singer songwriter from Derby, England, local to me here at Full Volume! She has gained support from BBC Introducing and performed at some great events such as Faction at Rough Trade Nottingham and Dot 2 Dot Festival. Her new track “Lucid Dreaming” combines soothing vocals with lo-fi beats to create a track that is incredibly dreamy, as you would expect from a song titled “Lucid Dreaming”.
I also asked Emzae a couple of questions to give you guys some more insight on her music, and here is what she had to say:
How would you describe the music you make?
I never really know how to answer that question. I always describe my genre as pop. I guess I would describe it as melancholic pop with a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m a really deep thinker. In fact, I said in an interview the other day that I’ve always been a strange mix of flamboyant and anxious, and I really liked that line! I write a lot about my life and my feelings about life, society and things that I observe about the world. The music from my upcoming album is based on the sounds from my home city of Derby and features a lot of audio samples recorded in and around in the city – they are often buried in the mix, but they are there. At the moment I like to think that my music sounds like what it feels like to live here.
After performing at some great events such as Dot 2 Dot fest, what is next for you and your music?
I recently collaborated with four different producers (Dopla, Rezzonator, Marcus Tee and Tokyo 54) on an EP called Lucid Dreaming – The Remixes which was released on July 20th, so I am currently focusing on promoting that. In the background, i’m continuing to mix my next album. I will probably release a couple more tracks from that before ‘unleashing’ the entire collection. I am taking a slight break over the summer from gigging, but I’m hoping to do some shows soon using the electronic live setup that I have been working on. Most of the time I perform acoustically, so it will be nice to perform some tracks that sound closer to the studio versions.
