Throwback Thursday – Drake: ‘Take Care’

7 years. 7 whole years. It’s crazy, I remember bopping to this album back in my Drizzy fanboy days at the age of 14. To this day I still have the album stashed away somewhere in my collection, and to this day remains my favourite album by Drake. I am of course talking about the award-winning album, Take Care.

Released November 15th 2011, Take Care was the second studio album from the world-famous Canadian, Drake, debuting at number one on the ‘Billboard 200’ and winning the award for ‘Best Rap Album’ at the 2013 Grammy Awards. An emotional album, featuring stories of relationships, friends, family and fame, Take Care was a reassembly of Drakes relationship with long-term friend and producer Noah “40” Shebib, featuring many of the artists famous singles such as “Headlines” and “Take Care” featuring Rihanna. The album contains arguably some of Drakes best ever features, including the likes of Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd and Andre 3000, along with some regular features that we are used to seeing on Drakes tracks including Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.

In my opinion, this was Drakes best album ever, as much as I loved Nothing Was the Same coming in at a close second. Tracks like “Crew Love” and “The Real Her” practically shaped my love for Drake, and at the time of release he was for sure my favourite artist. It is hard to deny that Drake is one of the greatest artists around right now (even if you aren’t a fan), and has been since the release of this album, only getting bigger along the way. I am looking forward to even more music, and the possibility of headlining Reading and Leeds festival next summer, with odds at just 2/1 according to NME.

Favourite song on the album: “The Real Her”
